Problem: Safe Schools Nigeria is a social innovation project aimed at providing sustainable solutions to the persisting challenges of safety and security in places of learning across Nigeria. The project seeks to organize and galvanize stakeholders in the education sector including students, parents, tutors, policymakers makers, and school leaders to fully participate in realizing the Safe Schools Declaration— an international commitment to ensure that places of learning and those within the school system are free from violence or right abuse during times of war and conflict. It expresses support for the protection of students, teachers, and their schools during armed conflict, stressing the importance of continued education during emergencies.
Unique Selling Point: Insecurity remains a serious challenge in both developed and developing countries across the world. Unfortunately, this poses a serious threat to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the areas of education, healthcare, and economic competitiveness. Meanwhile, Safe Schools Nigeria aims to provide real solutions to real security problems based on the Nigerian context. Among other things, it was discovered that implementing the globally recognized SAFE SCHOOL DECLARATION will require the participation of multiple stakeholders, including learners. It should be noted that there is a wide knowledge gap between students and school leaders concerning school/student safety. To effectively counter crime and violence in places of learning, young people will need to be provided a comprehensive security education to identify and minimize their vulnerabilities.
