Problem: The project proposes an Android Based Improved Home Automation (ABiA) system via GSM module. The ABiA system puts OFF all the electrical loads that are connected to it, whenever the electricity that has been interrupted is restored automatically; informs user on his(her) mobile line that the electricity is restored, displays all connected loads upon launching an already installed ABiA App on the user's mobile phone, and also directs the user of the system to put ON any load of his(her) choice at any given time and at any location without sending short message service code.

Unique Selling Point: Many of the previous Home Automation Systems (HAS) that employed Microcontrollers and GSM modules send a notification when utility restores electricity in the buildings; then the user of the such HAS has to send a code to first know the status of the electrical connected load before taken a decision to send another code to turn OFF(ON) the appliance(s). The problem with the aforementioned HAS is that people can forget codes which makes such designs not users friendly and ineffective. Again, with such designs, some of the appliances will still maintain their ON states before the interruption of power supply; which means that appliances that are not needed to be ON; are likely to be ON when their uses are not required at a particular time; and this is a waste of energy. If it is assumed that what was ON before the interruption of the electricity was an electric iron or kettle. When the power is restored, there is every tendency that network might fail and the user’s life and property might face fire outbreak. Hence, there is need to design a system that will put OFF all the electrical connected loads as soon as utility interrupts electricity, and then the owner can use an Android Application to ON any electrical load that is required to be ON at any particular time and at any location. Again, because people can easily forget code, there is need to propose of a system; which would be an Android based with ON and OFF buttons that would appear on the user's mobile phone, and this will make the usage of the HAS very flexible and friendly. Hence, the reason for the designing of the Android Based Improved Automation (ABiA) system.
