Design and Development of a utility-scale Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Generator

Innovations Item Code: 21c4cf1414

Stage of Innovation: Idea (You have thought it through and documented it)

Problem: Considering the insatiable, erratic, and epileptic state of power in Nigeria, which is badly affecting productivity across different sectors of the economy, the need for an alternative and sustainable energy source cannot be neglected. The rising cost of energy has also been a challenge to everybody and all sectors of the Nigerian Economy, and as such there is dire need for adoption of a dependable alternate source of energy. Furthermore, with the rise of global warming and climate change looming over us, there is a need for the energy industry to find energy sources free of carbon dioxide pollution (which contribute the majority of global greenhouse gas emissions).

Unique Selling Point: People are not doing much about it. In fact, wind power has not been widely used in Nigeria. This can be due to various factors, including the abundance of fossil fuel resources and high cost of setting up a wind power infrastructure. Existing wind turbine technologies are not suitable for utility-scale application because, they are huge and expensive and are therefore inaccessible to small and medium scale entities. This project seeks to develop a wind power technology which will be inexpensive and accessible to small and medium scale entities, closing the energy gap between demand and supply.
