Problem: Nigeria currently generates about 4000 megawatts of electricity which is insufficient for a country of over 200 million people out of which about 195 million people have mobile phones that constantly needs to be charged. There are hundreds of phone charging kiosk using fuel powered generators to meet the phone charging needs of thousands of people because of poor power supply across the country especially in rural and semi urban communities. Using generator increases the operational cost of these kiosk owners which has led to higher amount been charged to customers and the current scarcity and high cost of fuel in Nigeria has worsen this problem. Also, generators are not environmentally friendly as they are very noisy and emits tons of carbon into the atmosphere that causes adverse climate change effects witnessed across the world.

Unique Selling Point: Generator charging kiosk are the current solution to the phone charging needs of thousands people, Nigeria has over 10 hours of daily sunlight, what if solar energy could be used as a substitute to generators for kiosk charging businesses across the country, this is the exact mission of business. I lead a team of young people passionate about climate change that constructs solar powered phone charging kiosk as a better alternative to expensive and polluting generator kiosk. Our solar phone kiosk is of 1kva capacity capable of charging up to 100 mobile phones and small load devices at a time. It is per-installed with 4 units of USB charge station ( 25 ports and charges 100 phones), adapter with 20 ports, 220Ah battery, 2 units of 300 watts solar panel, 40 amps charge controller and 1 kva inverter. Our solar phone kiosk can work at night when there is no sun with its battery, it is environmentally friendly, its noiseless, has zero carbon emission, zero fuel use, reduce operational cost by over 70% and helps phone charging business owners make more money. Thousand of Nigerians especially those in rural areas and semi urban areas will be able to charge their phones at an affordable rate using clean energy. This will create more jobs, improve of owners, and reduce carbon emission and create a better world for us all. We plan to distribute our solar kiosk in a financially flexible and sustainable manner to reach underdeveloped areas and low-income communities using a lease to own payment model.
