Problem: The public health hazards posed by unhygienic poultry slaughtering processes employed in public abattoirs in Nigeria and the unaffordability/inaccessibility of mechanized poultry slaughter techniques to the Nigerian Meat Industry.
Unique Selling Point: Currently, public abattoirs in Nigeria utilize manual methods for processing poultry. This makes it easy for contamination to occur in the event a diseased bird is processed, and is not safe for public health. Also, these methods are generally labour-intensive and slow. Existing Poultry production technologies are generally suited for ultra-large scale production and are not affordable to local abattoir businesses. This project aims at making processing technologies available to the local processors in Nigerian Abattoirs. The proposed device will be able to take in live poultry, slaughter them, scald them and defeather them.
