Stage of Innovation: Proof of Concept (You have created something to show the innovation can work)

Problem: ENACTCARE is a social enterprise dedicated to reducing the high rate of pre-term deaths in Nigeria by providing warmth for premature babies with our innovative, low-cost and simple to use baby warmers, allowing every mother to see their babies grow. This innovation aims to alleviate the anguish of mothers who have lost babies at a premature stage by innovating a baby warmer to give those babies who struggle to live.

Unique Selling Point: We designed our product to look just like a sleeping bag. It is wrapped around a premature infant and a pouch made of a phase changed material ( Bee Wax) keeps the baby at a constant of (35-37o Celsius for 4-6 hours) .After four hours, the PCM pouch could be “recharged” by heating or submerging it in boiling water for a few minutes. The Enactcare Infant warmer is small and light, making it easy and inexpensive to transport to rural villages. The entire sleeping bag can be sanitized. It is far more intuitive to use than traditional incubators, and fits well into the recommended practice of “Kangaroo Care,” where a mother holds her baby against her skin. Finally, compared to the $20,000 price of a traditional incubator, the Enactcare incubator only costs less than $25. The product uses an innovative wax incorporated in a sleeping bag to regulate a baby’s temperature. It stays warm without electricity, has no moving parts, is portable and is safe and intuitive to use. The Enactcare Infant Warmer can be used in a clinical setting, for transporting babies infants of severe condition to health facilities where they can be catered for and in a community setting.
