Innovations Item Code: hydrogen-solar-fuel-cells
Sector: Renewable/Green Energy
Description:
Hydrogen Solar Fuel-Cells focuses on pioneering energy efficiency and conservation through hydrogen as a renewable energy source.
The Setup includes an 85-watt solar panel, a charge controller, a 5-amp battery, and an electrolyzer, which is the central component. The electrolyzer is made from an acrylic container and consists of ten square stainless steel electrodes stacked equidistant on two separate rods. The first rod representing the cathode (the negatively charged rod) and the second rod representing the anode (the positively charged rod).
The solar panel converts sunlight rays from the solar panel to electricity. A charge controller connected to the solar panel regulates the flow of Direct current from the solar panel to the battery. The battery allows the stored solar energy to be used to power the electrolyzer. An Alkaline Electrolyte is used in the Acrylic container filled with distilled water to catalyse the reaction. The electrolyzer uses the electrical energy to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. This produces hydrogen gas that can be collected and utilized

Stage of Innovation: Proof of Concept (You have created something to show the innovation can work)
Problem:
Fossil Fuels as a primary source of energy is not sustainable. It causes disastrous environmental pollution and climate change. Hydrogen Solar Fuel-Cells will change that narrative by creating a clean energy carrier that is sustainable, renewable and cheap. Hydrogen gas gotten from the innovation will be used as an alternative to fossil fuels consequently reducing climate change.
Unique Selling Point: Currently, most industries that produce hydrogen gas use processes and methods that emit more carbon gas into the atmosphere. According, to a journal - Hydrogen, MIT Climate, we emit 830 million tonnes of CO2 each year to produce 74 million tonnes of hydrogen. Our Hydrogen Fuel-Cell system doesn't emit any carbon because our system is powered by renewable energy. It is also made from locally sourced materials.
