Innovations Item Code: IN-2024-2100055
Sector: AgriTech/FoodTech
Description:
The objective is to design and develop a solar-powered irrigation system incoporated with a mobile app for soil testing(soil's moisture, nutrients level and pH) that will help farmers in remote areas to access water for irrigation and make informed decisions about their soil health.
Stage of Innovation: Proof of Concept (You have created something to show the innovation can work)
Problem:
Non-availability of rainfall in the summer for agriculture which has adversely affect our quest to food security in a great concern. The lack of access to water is a critical issue for agriculture, especially in areas where there is limited access to electricity or water sources. Most farmers often times do know have adequate information about the soil characteristics and its suitability for planting in a particular season as a result there is always a low yield of product at the end of farming season. Solar-powered irrigation systems have emerged as a promising solution to address the challenge of water. By incorporating a mobile app for soil testing, farmers can make informed decisions about their irrigation needs, leading to increased crop yields and water conservation.
Unique Selling Point: Currently, people mostly rely of only irriggation famring as a unit or soil testiing as another. This innovative approach combines renewable energy, IoT technology, and soil testing to create a comprehensive solution for modern agriculture.
