I
Efficient and Environmental Benign Extraction of Critical Metal for Industrial Application

Innovations Item Code: IN-2024-2100244

Sector: Environmental sustainability/Circular economy

Description:

Nigeria, like other African countries are sink of end-of-life electrical electronics products called electronic wastes or simply E-wastes. These E-waste ended in end up in soils which host water for living organism survival including man, plants  as a result of informal treatment and disposal. These products contain various class of metals. Though these considered wastes materials contain metals that can be extracted for industrial products.

A novel method for extraction of nickel, cobalt, and copper  has been developed which  are used in production of various products such as batteries, heavy machineries. The method is very efficient, and green in nature.

Stage of Innovation: Prototype (You have a working physical product)

Problem:

The innovation produces nickel, cobalt and copper which are critical metals in industries (circular economy). The extraction also halt release of the metals  into the environment (environmental sustainability).

Unique Selling Point: The artisan uses informal method such as indiscriminate burning of the e-waste to recover the metals. The burning releases combustion chemical products such xenobiotic which are highly toxic to biomass. The informal method commonly used are not efficient in extracting the metals making it results in economic loss. Our approach is scientifically designed and extremely less chemicals are used. The chemicals used are non-toxic to biomass. The method take place in ambient condition, no heating required and highly efficient.
