Innovations Item Code: IN-2024-2100357
Sector: Renewable/Green Energy
Description:
The production and sales of renewable natural gas (biogas) produced from cow dung, farm and kitchen waste is one that does not yet exist in Nigeria. The business is to purchase cow dung from herders, agricultural (farm) waste from farmers and traders, and kitchen waste. These materials together would be used to produce biogas that would be sold at 30% less the current price, thereby making the gas more affordable even by the lower class who can then use it as a source of cooking fuel. This would in turn reduce dependence on charcoal which is gotten from trees. By reducing dependence on charcoal, the rate of felling trees would also reduce greatly.
Stage of Innovation: Proof of Concept (You have created something to show the innovation can work)
Problem:
The problems include:
- climate change as a result of the reaction of methane in cow dung and felling of trees
- High rate of felling trees
- Unpredictable and uncontrollable price of gas
- Indiscriminate dumping or farm wastes, kitchen wastes and cow dung (poor sanitation)
- unaffordability of gas by low income earners
- impure drinking water caused by leached nutrient to underground water
Unique Selling Point: People sell gas in gas stations and do not produce gas. My solution puts the gas production into consideration, thereby reducing the harmful effect of cow dung on the climate. My solution enhances environmental sanitation, compensates farmers and traders for their spoilt produce and goods, and rewards them for bringing these things to the gas production centre. My solution helps preserve underground water thereby making water safer for drinking and use.
