Sector: AgriTech/FoodTech

Description:

Our innovation, the IoT-Based Cattle Intrusion Detection and Prevention System, provides farmers with an advanced, real-time solution to protect their crops from unauthorized cattle grazing. This system uses sensors, cameras, and IoT technology to continuously monitor farm boundaries, detecting any cattle intrusion immediately. Upon detection, an automated alarm emits a sound frequency that repels cattle, while the farmer receives instant alerts via SMS and mobile notifications. Images of the intrusion are uploaded to Google Drive for further assessment. This integrated system significantly enhances farm security, prevents crop damage, and promotes peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, supporting sustainable agriculture.

Stage of Innovation: Prototype (You have a working physical product)

Problem:

The IoT-Based Cattle Intrusion Detection and Prevention System addresses the persistent issue of cattle intrusions on farmlands in Nigeria, which causes significant crop damage, financial loss, and, in some cases, violent conflicts. Unauthorized cattle intrusions have led to an estimated $1.5 billion in annual economic losses for farmers and communities. Additionally, over 3,000 lives have been lost in herder-farmer conflicts, which also result in the destruction of entire villages and displacement of families. For example, in recent years, clashes in Nigeria's Middle Belt have left many farmers unable to tend their land due to fear of further incidents, leading to severe disruptions in food production and regional stability. The IoT-Based Cattle Intrusion Detection and Prevention System aims to prevent these losses, protect farmers' livelihoods, and reduce tensions by offering a real-time, technology-driven solution to monitor, detect, and deter cattle from entering farmland.

Unique Selling Point: Currently, farmers in affected areas use various traditional methods to deter cattle, such as dressing trees with cloth, attaching metal to ropes to create loud banging sounds, and manually guarding their farms. While these methods can provide some immediate protection, they are often inconsistent, labor-intensive, and ineffective in preventing cattle from returning, especially at night or when farmers are away. The IoT-Based Cattle Intrusion Detection and Prevention System offers a more reliable and automated solution. Unlike traditional methods, this system uses sensors and cameras to continuously monitor farmland in real time, detecting cattle intrusions immediately and activating deterrents that emit sounds specifically designed to repel animals. The system also sends SMS alerts to farmers, allowing them to act promptly. If the intrusion continues, it triggers an automatic call to the farm owner and sends images to Google Drive for remote viewing. This combination of real-time monitoring, automated alerts, and animal-specific deterrents provides a scalable, effective solution that minimizes crop damage and labor requirements, offering farmers peace of mind and enhanced farm security.
