Innovation: This is novel. Most solar cells are synthetic. The cells are made from obnoxious plant leaves that is abound and generally thrown away during farm land clearing.
Sector/Industry Application: Power and agriculture
Description: Exploring the constituents of mimosa plant leaves for the development of solar cells. I observed that the mimosa plant leaves opens in the morning and closes at night. With that phenomenon, I subjected the leaves to lab screening by isolating the active principle to make solar cells which was subsequently arranged in modules to make solar panel to power lamps and electrical gadgets.
Problem: To alleviate the challenge of the rural dewellers who cannot afford the expensive conventional solar panels. Besides, they are confronted with incecent power outages. The development of mimosa solar panel is cheap and raw material is readily available.
