Innovation: VR FOR CLIMATE provides a fun and interactive learning experience for users that helps them understand the importance of climate action. Through the use of VR headsets, users will be able to immerse themselves in a virtual world where they can learn about different climate challenges and how they can make a difference. The solution does not require learners to converge under the same roof, or within the four walls of a classroom, the solution provides opportunities for learners to have an in-class learning experience while learning remotely. To achieve this objective, we will use VR headsets to create a gaming learning experience for users. The VR experience will be designed to be both educational and entertaining, with interactive elements that allow users to explore different climate challenges and learn about how their daily actions can have a positive impact on the environment. In addition to the VR experience, we will also provide educational materials and resources to teachers and educators, to help them incorporate the VR FOR SDG experience into their lesson plans and curriculum. This will allow them to easily integrate the VR experience into their classrooms, and help ensure that the learning experience is meaningful and impactful for their students.

Problem: In Nigeria and other African countries, climate change has become a major threat to livelihoods, ecosystems, and the overall well-being of communities. According to the World Bank, Africa is among the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change, and the continent is projected to experience some of the most severe consequences, including increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, decreased agricultural productivity, and loss of biodiversity. According to the United Nations, Nigeria is one of the countries most affected by environmental degradation and climate change in West Africa. The country is facing multiple environmental challenges such as deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, and pollution, which have severe implications for food security, water availability, and public health. Despite these challenges, there is still a significant lack of awareness and understanding of climate change issues among the general public in Nigeria and Africa. This lack of awareness hinders efforts to address climate change and implement sustainable practices. The need to increase climate change awareness and climate education among the general public, especially young people, school children through immersive and interactive experiences that utilize VR technology and other XR technologies. By providing an engaging and interactive way to learn about climate challenges and solutions, the VR FOR CLIMATE project can help to inspire and motivate individuals to take action and contribute to a more sustainable future.
